Escape the Inquisition

Educational game focusing on the Jewish perspective during the Spanish Inquisition. Consists of three short stories that highlight the before, during, and after of the Edict of Expulsion.

Project Lead

Lead a 12 person team using a Scrum/Kanban Hybrid. Developed cross department pipelines to all integrate into Articy:Draft for a narrative first focus. Mediated between team scope and stakeholders from the University of Central Florida.

Narrative Design

Designed all branching dialogue sequences for three short stories, revolving around three different player characters. Our goal was to highlight the Jewish perspective during the Spanish Inquisition.

  • Narrative outline brainstorm was initially done on Miro boards and then transferred to Articy:Draft.

  • Mini-Game Concepting & Integration of Mini-Games into game endings.

  • Branching Storylines: Included moments where player choice could unlock different character endings and affect the following stories.

Writing

Wrote all branching dialogue sequences for three short stories, revolving around three different player characters and resulting in 30 minutes of gameplay for a classroom experience.

  • Unique Character Design: Wrote the player characters to revolve around three different experiences for the time period and researched cultural distinctions.

  • Dialogue: Researched historically accurate speech through books and letters from the time period, then adapted to modern English.

  • Authenticity: Reviewed with experts of Judaic History and adapted suggested changes to maintain cultural accuracy.
